The training of Pure Spanish Horses
Owners introduce their horses to the discipline of dressage either by means of the temporary transfer of their horses or by means of paying for stabling.

Rider-Teacher Course
Aimed at young people interested in a professional career in horse riding (dressage).
Duration: three years.
Content of the course:

 









1. The breaking-in of colts: this subject is taught one hour a day throughout the whole course. On completion of the first year students should have acquired the necessary knowledge to break-in a colt and to prepare it for its first competition.
2. Riding techniques: this subject is taught a minimum of one hour a day during the first year. It entails the practice of horse riding and aims to equip students with the necessary skills for participation in competitions and to help each student attain the highest possible level of horsemanship according to his or her individual aptitudes. The subject is taught two hours daily during the second year.
3. Shoeing: this subject is taught by the head blacksmith of the Real Maestranza and aims to equip students to recognise the kindness and importance of quality shoeing and to provide them with a knowledge of the different uses and applications of the various types of corrective shoes.
4. Hippology: this subject aims to teach students the basic characteristics of the horse family, including development, breeding, nutrition, faults and virtues. It includes basic veterinary knowledge in order to equip the student to identify rapidly and accurately the most common horse illnesses and to provide training in first aid techniques as well as emergency and preventive treatments.
5. Teaching of riding: this subject aims to equip students with the capacity to transmit the knowledge they have acquired.
6. First aid: the aim of this subject is to teach students to provide first aid to riders after a fall, including knowledge of how to immobilise a fractured bone, stop bleeding, etc.(This subject is only taught if it has not been included in the level 1 coaching course, or if this course is not taught.)
7. First aid for horses: the aim of this subject is the accurate and rapid detection of the most common horse illnesses and emergency treatment.
8. Morphology and functionality of dressage horses: this subject aims to provide students with an appreciation of the characteristics of a good competition horse, especially a dressage horse, and with particular reference to Pure Spanish Horses.
9. Federation regulations: this subject equips students to interpret the various regulations of the RFHE and FEI federations and to therefore be in a position to attend competitions and relate to the various types of staff involved in these.
10. Maintenance of horses, facilities and equipment: this subject equips students to run riding clubs, with all the implications involved.

Stabling
The Real Maestranza de Ronda provides owners with the opportunity of enrolling their colts for a year-long programme of training. Colts attend the «colt class» of the Rider-Teacher Course and, with the supervision of our staff, are broken in, trained and presented for their first competition by students and teachers. The cost includes: food, maintenance, shoeing, veterinary fees, training and breaking-in.

Riding courses
In addition to the Rider-Teacher Course, the RMR offers courses of varying duration and type for riders who wish to improve their techniques and knowledge of competition riding.
